Our Story

About Kiambu Hillcrest Academy

Founded in 1998 as a nursery school in Kanunga Village, Hillcrest has grown into a full elementary institution — day and boarding, nursery through upper primary — with a reputation for results and for character.

Our Story

A quarter of a century of quiet growth

Kiambu Hillcrest Academy opened its doors in 1998, starting initially as a nursery school before expanding into an elementary institution. What began as a handful of young learners in Kanunga Village is today a mixed day and boarding school offering Kindergarten, PP1, PP2 and a complete primary education.

We operate from our Kanunga Campus, situated behind the local shopping centre — close enough for day families to walk, spacious enough to give children room to run, play and grow.

Our promise to parents has not changed since day one: an excellent educational experience that is enjoyable, that instils moral values, and that helps every child reach their full potential.

Moral Foundation

Character, discipline and respect are taught alongside every other subject.

Every Child Known

Small groups in the early years mean teachers see each learner individually.

Milestones

The road we have travelled

1998

The doors open

Hillcrest is established in Kanunga Village as a nursery school, with a small team of teachers and an even smaller class.

2000s

Becoming an elementary school

The nursery grows into a full primary institution, adding lower and upper primary classes and the first purpose-built classrooms on the Kanunga Campus.

2010s

Boarding & transport

A full-term boarding facility opens for learners aged 11 and above, alongside arranged school transport on safe routes across Kiambu.

Peak

Leading the sub-county

Hillcrest pupils are recorded leading Kiambaa Sub-County in national examination performance — a standard the school has worked to hold ever since.

Today

Kindergarten to junior levels

Six learning pathways — Kindergarten, PP1, PP2, lower primary, upper primary and the junior bridge — taught on a wheelchair-accessible campus with ongoing admissions.

Our Core Values

What we hold closest

Six commitments that shape how we teach, how we discipline and how we welcome every child through the gate.

Integrity

Honesty and accountability in the classroom, on the playground and in the examination hall.

Care

A safe, nurturing environment where a child is never just a register number.

Excellence

High expectations, continuous assessment and the pursuit of the very best each learner can do.

Discipline

Structure and routine that teach self-control, punctuality and respect for others.

Inclusion

Wheelchair-accessible entry points and an open door to children of all abilities and backgrounds.

Service

Raising young people who give back — to their families, their community and their country.

How We Are Run

Governance you can reach

The academy is managed by a hands-on administration team supported by the proprietor, academic staff and a parents' liaison structure. Decisions about teaching, discipline and welfare are made close to the classroom — so issues are resolved quickly and parents speak to people who know their child.
